Music Booster Meeting Agenda for 9-16 at 7pm

Our agenda for Friday’s Music Booster meeting (9-16 at 7pm in the HS band room) includes presenting and implementing bylaws for the group and an overview of our fundraiser plans for this fall semester. If there is anything you would like to contribute to our conversations about the bylaws and our Pastry puffins fundraiser next Friday, please come. If not, no worries! I will post agendas for our meetings on a regular basis so that based on what we are discussing, you can decide to come or not. Our goal is to make sure parents alway feel like they are informed and have a say in what is taking place. Your level of involvement is totally up to you.

Pekin Marigold Festival Parade

We will be marching in the Pekin Marigold Festival Parade on Saturday, September 10th. Here is the agenda for the day:

Arrive at the HS at 8am.
Leave the HS at 8:30am.
Arrive in Pekin and unload at 9:15am
Parade steps off at 10am
Leave Pekin at 11am
Stop at M&M Twistee Treat in East Peoria at 11:15am (Bring your own money for any food or ice cream you’d like)
Leave M&M Twistee Treat at 12:15pm
Arrive back at RBHS at 12:45pm

If you are leaving with parents right after the parade, I need a parent email stating that before Saturday please.

It should be a fun time! Come out and support our Marching Rockets!!

Welcome, Mr. Scott Whitman

Dear RB Band Members and Parents:

I am very pleased with the selection of Mr. Scott Whitman as the new RB60 Band Director.  Please join me in welcoming him to RB!

Hello! My name is Scott Whitman and I will be Roanoke-Benson’s new band director starting this fall.

I graduated last May from Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. I did my student teaching at Northpoint Elementary School in Normal with K-5 General Music classes as well as at Metamora Township High School with their high school band classes. My primary instrument is the french horn which I played in university concert ensembles, but I also played trumpet with the ISU Jazz Band and mellophone with the ISU Big Red Marching Machine and the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps out of Toledo, OH.


I got married last August to my wife Myranda who is a nurse in downtown Bloomington. I worked this past school year in Washington, IL covering a year-long maternity leave at Central Intermediate School. While there I did 4th grade general music classes, jazz band, and 5th-8th grade band. I am excited to work with all the District 60 students that I have heard so many things about!

8th Grade Promotion

Members of the 6th & 7th grade RBJH Band will perform at the 8th grade promotion on Thursday, May 28, 2015.  The promotion ceremony begins at 7:00 PM.  Band students will need to arrive at 6:30 PM.  The ceremony will last approximately 40 minutes.  Students should wear nice dress clothes.

  • RBHS Graduation
  • Pre-ceremonial music (with seniors) begins at 2:50 PM
  • Graduation ceremony starts at 3:00 PM
  • Wear dress-up clothes


Change in Starting Time for Spring Band Concert

Dear Band Parents and Students:

Due to a conflict with a junior high school track meet, the RB60 administration has changed the starting time of the spring band concert from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

Students should arrive at the high school between 7:00 – 7:10 PM.

2015 Spring Band Concert

The 2015 Spring Band Concert will be at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 7 in the RBHS gymnasium.  All RB60 band students (grades 5-12) will participate in the concert.  Band students should arrive at the high school by 6:40 PM.  Junior high and high school band members will meet in the high school band room; 5th and 6th-grade band students will meet in the hallway outside the high school band room.  (Signs will be posted for the 5th and 6th graders.) Students should wear nice dress clothes.
