Great Composers
Sowers Elementary School
4th Grade General Music

Throughout the year, forth graders will learn about some famous composers.

General Music Classes Study Jazz Legend Duke Ellington

The 2006-2007 fourth grade general music students at Sowers Elementary School studied the life and music of Duke Ellington. Students did research on Duke Ellington and then created podcasts on the life and music of one of America’s greatest composers – Duke Ellington. At the end of the unit on Duke Ellington, each student created a Flat Stanley to send to relatives inviting them to listen to their podcast.

Please check back in the future to see where our Flat Stanley’s have traveled.

To learn more about Duke Ellington visit the official Duke Ellington website at www.dukeellington.com.

General Music Classes Celebrated Mozart's 250th Birthday

In the 2005-2006 school year, fourth grade general music students at Sowers Elementary School celebrated the 250th birthday of Johannes Chrisostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart - better known as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart was born on January 27, 1756. The students learned about Mozart's life and his music. While they learned about Mozart, they created a "Flat Stanley" that "looked" like Mozart. The students mailed their "Flat Stanley" ala Mozart to a friend or family member who took their picture with "Flat Stanley". To learn more on how students use "Flat Stanley" in school visit the Official Flat Stanley Project website.
